Photonics Ghana at the Maiden STEM Festival in Ghana

Photonics Ghana participates in the first ever STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) festival in Ghana, which is organized be Primetime Ghana, the media house responsible for the production of the Ghana National Science and Maths Quiz. The STEM Festival constitutes two events: Mentorship Sessions and Sci-Tech Fair. The mentorship session brings together students from 10 high schools around the country. The mentorship session is intended to serve as a opportunity to guide students in selecting a career in STEM whiles also giving them the opportunity to engage with seasoned professionals in STEM. Photonics Ghana will use this opportunity to enlighten the students about what Photonics is and the career paths available.

The Sci-Tech Fair, on the other hand, is a practical event that provides the platform for students and tech start-ups to apply their ingenuity, knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts studied in the classroom to provide solutions, or inventions that could help solve problems in Ghana. Students will get the chance to interact with the resource person from Photonics Ghana during the question-and-answer session.

The 2021 edition of the STEM Festival will begin with the Mentorship Sessions, which would be held from July 15 – August 4, 2021 in one-hour long sessions from Monday to Friday, streamed live on the STEM and NSMQ social media platforms. The Festival will end with the Sci-Tech Fair, which is scheduled to take place on August 4 - 5, 2021 in Accra.
